Origin: Kerugoya, Kenya Farmers Cooperative Society (FCS)
Farm Causes:
Kaguyu is operated by the Inoi Farmers Cooperative Society (FCS), a group of 11 factories supporting 1,000 active members across 200 hectares, yielding 250,000 kg of green coffee annually. Each farmer grows around 200-300 coffee trees, and cherries are hand-picked and processed at the Kaguyu factory. Using a fully washed, double-fermentation method, Kaguyu ensures high-quality beans. After pulping, the coffee is dry-fermented, washed, soaked, and finally sun-dried on raised beds for careful defect selection.
Located near Kerugoya town in Kirinyaga County, Kenya, Kaguyu sits on the slopes of Mount Kenya at 1,750-1,800 meters altitude. This region’s volcanic soils, two wet seasons, and over 1,500 mm of annual rainfall create ideal conditions for coffee cultivation. The Rutui River provides water for processing, with soaking pits in place for recycling.
